I haven’t donned anything “hot pink” in years. In fact, it’s quite possible that my ownership of anything that bright dates back to my Barbie doll days. Up until recently, there was just something about the color that wasn’t quite age-appropriate for a 20-something to wear in general—let alone to wear in the office. My hypothesis is that those of us who grew up in the 90s strongly associate anything neon-hued with childhood (remember when the neon Crayolas came out?).
But these bright colors are making quite the comeback this spring, in a new and grown-up fashion that’s much more wearable. No longer reserved for pop punk concert enthusiasts and casual dressing, fluo brights are coming in all sorts of sartorial delights: blouses, skirts, and most notably, accessories. Glasses, clutches, shoes, cross-body bags, you name it—they’re bold, smart, and totally irresistible.

My favorite way of incorporating neon into my work wardrobe is to wear mostly neutrals (or muted colors, like the evergreen blazer on Jentine) and choose a pop of color or two as accents. I’m loving this new hot pink clutch I received as part of a gift bag for attending the Independent Fashion Bloggers conference this month. No matter outfit you wear it with, it makes a big, bold statement—and it’s so much fun to carry!

If a statement clutch is too much, try stacking some neon bracelets or throwing on a fluorescent yellow cardigan—you’ll be surprised at just how versatile those pieces can be!
Day-glo bright, cheerfully sunny, and absolutely fabulous—we can’t think of a better way to kick off the spring (take that, Punxsutawney Phil).
