@dailymuse Happy Hour outfit suggestions?
— Coretta Scott Key (@CorettaScottKey)
Dear @CorettaScottKey,
Good question! Happy hour can come in many different forms—from swanky restaurants offering happy hour specials to your hole-in-the-wall dive bar that’ll make your work heels feel completely out of place. And that means it’s a good idea to have a whole range of options in your wardrobe.
First things first: To pull off these looks, you may need to bring a few extra pieces with you in your work bag—especially if, say, you’re going from a conservative corporate office to a dive bar. So, invest in a basic colored tote bag that’s easy to carry and sophisticated (no re-usable grocery bags!). Then check out these looks for inspiration, and you’ll have something fun to wear when you head out next Friday for a much needed (and deserved) after-hours cocktail!
For that mid-range tapas place you’ve been dying to go to with your girlfriends, here are two looks that will be an easier transition from work to play.
On the Left: You may recognize a favorite of mine—the perfect chambray shirt. This perfect summertime (and let’s be honest, all year round) staple has been dressed up by pairing it with a bouncy high-waisted skirt and a spunky necklace tucked under the collar.
On the Right: A tribal print dress in a modern silhouette can be paired with a bright blazer for a fun, punchy outfit.
For that laid back, dingy (yet endearing) dive bar that you love so much, relax and wear your lazy Sunday best.
On the Left: Wear super comfortable boyfriend jeans with your favorite white t-shirt, oxfords, and a fab statement necklace—it’ll really pop with your simple outfit!
On the Right: You won’t be donning these shorts to work, but they’re perfect for the bar, paired with your favorite white tee and motorcycle boots.
If you’re heading to a swankier establishment for happy hour (a little Friday night date night, perhaps?), you’ll want to make sure you dress to impress.
On the Left: A black jumpsuit can be very elegant if you get one that is draped well and made with a flattering material. Pair with a glitzy clutch (like this one, with a little edge!), then keep jewelry to a minimum and wear your hair in a low chignon or top knot to keep your look classy.
On the Right: Try your favorite formal LWD with punchy pumps and a feminine cocktail ring.
