Introducing… Cubicle Chic
Cubicle Chic is a personal style blog, founded by Lindsay Mueller and Meredith Duncan. Cubicle Chic focuses on dressing for the corporate world, with a healthy dose of creativity and flair. These two ladies believe that your 9-5 wardrobe shouldn’t bore you—there’s no need to get lost in a sea of suits! Instead, stand out by expressing yourself and find trends and style signatures that work for you. That’s a sure-fire way to make for a feel-good, look-good situation—and who doesn’t want both?
Makin’ it (at) Work with Cubicle Chic: Striped Lass
In New York City, summer returns every June bringing us abundant sunshine, relentless humidity, trips to the beach—and classic nautical style. Maybe it’s because dressing like a captain just makes us feel cool—in terms of temperature and style—or because the combination of red, white, and blue goes hand-in-hand with the patriotic holidays of the season.
Nautical looks may be especially prevalent in shoreline towns like NYC and the New England coast, but they’re also a fashion favorite among bloggers and industry folk alike. The reemergence of this preppy look this summer is embodied with breton stripes, Sperry Topsiders, high waisted trousers with sailor details and, of course, lots of red, white, and blue with gold accents.
Cubicle Chic loves the nautical look because it conveys a relaxed summer vibe. The Gucci ensemble would be perfect for lounging on a sailboat, no?
Unfortunately, that’s not how we get to spend the majority of our time, so we adopt this seaside style and transformed it from yacht-ready to office-appropriate! Lucky for us 9-to-5-ers, the look is polished and slightly preppy, so many of the casual items in stores now can also be made to work for the office.
Central to Lindsay’s look is her casual, red striped tee, paired with a navy pencil skirt. Our office instates a casual dress code during the summer months, making the tee appropriate, and the pencil skirt dresses it up just enough.
If this look is too casual for your workplace, add a blazer to increase the professional factor. Try a white one that can work some summery magic. The necklace is red coral, an undeniably nautical touch, and the gold chain is essential for the look. Lindsay ties it all together with her basic black pumps, accented with the gold buckle.
And for a touch of personal flair, she added a pair of thick rimmed, geek chic glasses. We say, anchors away!
