Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.”
This infamous line from The Devil Wears Prada runs through my head each time I see another pair of floral skinnies in the blogosphere or on the streets of New York City. I’m not usually into patterns, particularly of the floral, girly kind—so every time spring rolls around, I’d rather pass.
But this season, I decided not to fight it. The florals this spring are more muted and delicate than overwhelmingly pink and feminine, just like this top I inherited recently.
Floral pants, though they’re everywhere this season, aren’t quite office-ready, especially if you work in the corporate world. But a flowy top is a good compromise. It’s colorful, pretty, and spring-like, and yet stays perfectly within a conservative dress code.
I discovered that my H&M cropped blazer is the just the right shade of green, and its relaxed cut fits in perfectly with the airy shape of the top. Of course, this outfit wouldn’t pass for a day of client meetings when suits are required, but on more laid-back days? Just do it.
Long tunic-like tops like this one work best with trousers that elongate your shape instead of cutting you off around your knee where the tunic ends. I would also consider working this with a long pencil skirt, but tucking it in for a more tailored silhouette. Maybe with this lovely pencil skirt from J.Crew? This’ll be a great look for summer!
Are you into florals this season? How do you pull them off at the office?
