Blazers, Re-Thunk

I have a confession to make: Despite the innumerable hours I spend in my business casual work environment, I’m not a blazer kind of girl.

And it’s not that I don’t like them—it’s that finding a blazer that fits me properly is difficult, especially those of the boxy, menswear variety. On my slightly short and pear-shaped frame, blazers have proven unflattering time and time again. They make the caboose look larger than it is while minimizing the appearance of the girls—a pear-shaped woman’s worst nightmare!

Enter new fashion company Quincy and their brilliant design idea—a blazer designed especially for women and sized by bra size, height, and hip-to-waist ratio, not just by dress size.

I was excited about this for a couple of reasons—mainly because a female-oriented custom fit system was finally dreamed and executed! Also, as a lingerie enthusiast, I think sizing a blazer by bra size is incredibly innovative and, upon trying on the blazer, definitely effective. The fit is tapered throughout and not too tight around the chest or shoulders (as Meredith pointed out in our last column). What I love most is that the cut almost mimics an A-line dress while maintaining the boxy shoulders, which is truly the best of both the women’s and menswear worlds.

I was elated to receive this gorgeous stone color pick from Quincy. I usually steer clear of pales because my complexion is already quite fair, but this gorgeous color worked surprisingly well with other pastels and black slacks.

I think that longer, boxier blazers like this pair work best with a tapered pant. It balances the menswear influence with an equestrian vibe, making the overall look timelessly chic and empowering. With a pair of platform pumps (perhaps in a bold hue!) for a dash of femme, you’ll be ready to conquer anything the day has in store.

How do you feel about blazers? Any blazer qualms or success stories to share? We’d love to hear!
