By now, most of us have recuperated from holiday exhaustion, are back into our normal routines, and are finding ourselves in need of something to look forward to.
So, avoid the January rut (and chilly weather) and get back into your social swing by planning a Girls’ Night In. Here are four fun ideas to get you reconnected with your friends in the comfort of your own home.
Pick up some cheap wine glasses and gather your girls for a wine tasting challenge. Ask each person to bring two identical bottles of her favorite wine. Have guests RSVP whether they’re bringing red or white (to make sure you have enough of each), but don’t have them disclose which label they plan to bring.
For each set, put one of the two bottles aside and brown bag the other, numbering each bag with a Sharpie. Conduct a blind tasting with each of the bagged wines and have guests vote on their favorite red and their favorite white. Whoever brought the most popular bottle of each gets to take home all the extra bottles!
Not only is this a fun way to stock your cellar (assuming you win!), but it’s a great way to try some new, delicious bottles of wine. Cheers!
If you’ve found yourself in a post-holiday beauty slump, invite friends over and swap your favorite make-up tips. Ask each guest to choose her favorite beauty technique (or one she’s been wanting to try), bring copies of the instructions to share with the group, then try it out on herself or someone else!
By the end of the night you should each have a new look (good or bad!). Who knows—you may find yourselves looking so good you might need a night out instead! Don’t forget your cameras.
After the stress-inducing holidays, we all deserve a day at the spa, right? But instead of braving the winter weather (and exorbitant spa prices), bring a treatment home and have friends join you for a spa evening in. Have everyone bring a bottle of wine and an appetizer or dessert to share, and hire a professional to do the rest. Whether you choose manis and pedis or mini facials and massages, you and your girls will get just the reboot you need to start the year off right. Have each person sign up for a time slot and take turns getting pampered while everyone else indulges in a sip, a snack, and some good old-fashioned girl talk. Relax and enjoy!
Mix up your girl’s night in with some fun new cocktails! Ask each guest to bring a bottle of booze (you want variety here, so assign various types of alcohol and liqueurs to each person). As the hostess, you provide the mixers. Make sure to have several types of juices and sodas, tonic, as well as garnishes. And get creative! Have the standard lemons, limes, olives, and cherries on hand, but also think about including things like fresh herbs and fruit, chocolate shavings, and sugar crystals.
Set up your bar, then have each guest come up with an original cocktail concoction for the group to taste. After tasting (if you still have your wits about you) put them to a vote—the winner gets bragging rights as the reigning Master Mixologist. For added fun (and safety), make this one a sleepover!
