Although us East Coasters are getting an unwelcome extra few weeks of winter this year, I’m still dusting off my pretty sundresses and sandals and preparing for warm weather style! While there are plenty of ways to update your weekday looks when spring rolls around, I especially look forward to the breezy duds you can pull off on the weekends.
Whether you’re heading out for a day of sunny market shopping or getting ready for a Saturday night out, I’ve pulled together some of the looks I can’t wait to try over the next couple of months as spring finally rolls in (fingers crossed!).
A Maxi Dress for Brunch
A Saturday afternoon on the patio of your favorite brunch spot calls for something breezy and pretty, yet still casual. A pretty maxi dress and leather sandals work perfectly and are roomy enough to feel comfortable even if you go overboard on the eggs Benedict and bottomless mimosas.
If you’re feeling bold, pair a pretty floral dress with a tougher, more masculine leather belt around the smallest part of your waist to add contrast and interest. If your maxi is looking too formal, throw on a cardigan or jean jacket to make it feel more relaxed.
A Short Suit for Date Night
Want to break out of your little black dress rut and try something more unique? One of my favorite trends for this spring is the short suit. It gives you the polish and sophistication of a suit without the stuffiness that one might associate with 9-to-5 wear—especially if you buy it in a fun brocade or unexpected bright hue. Plus, you can wear the shorts and blazers separately to get tons of wear out of both pieces.
Pair with chunky heeled sandals if your shorts aren’t super short, or throw on some lace-up flats and get ready for a night on the town.
Denim for Picnicking
For a Saturday afternoon in the park laying out on a blanket and reading a good book, you need something you can be comfortable in. Throw on a pair of Converse or patterned sneakers and your favorite denim—cut-off shorts, your jeans of choice, or even overalls—and pair with a basic and classic white button-down (I love silk or cotton).
If you want to add a little more whimsy to your outfit, top it off with a fun hat—I’m loving baseball caps in unexpected materials (like leather) or patterns (floral!) this season. You’ll look tomboyish but stylish all in one pass.
A Sundress for the Market
Heading to the farmers market for flowers and produce, or maybe to the flea market early Saturday morning to score fun secondhand goods? Pop on that vintage-inspired sundress, comfortable sandals, and cat-eye shades for a relaxed but classy feel.
Wear an oversized brimmed hat for extra credit, and don’t forget to bring a big woven basket to hold all your finds.
