Position Details:

In this role, you will support operational CAD build and maintenance processes and continuous improvement initiatives to achieve best in class CAD assortment and online customer experiences on Grainger.com.

You will build new 2D and 3D CAD models through reverse engineering using product information, customer data, product measurements and 3D scans. You will have familiarity with SolidWorks, building with design tables, configurations, and creating CAD renders from models. This role will also support our CAD process both internally and with our 3rd party CAD vendor.

You will report to the Director, Publishing.

You Will:

  • Create 3D CAD models and 2D Dimensional drawings in SolidWorks with knowledge of parametric solid modeling from data, product measurements and 3D scan data
  • Review 3D models and scans and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Perform onsite review of products for model development
  • Perform research for project development and CAD creation
  • Help guide development of CAD technology and processes
  • Understand project requirements and develop cost effective CAD models using available technology and resources
  • Understand all aspects of Grainger's publishing processes and systems
  • Monitor deliverable progress, manage scope changes and changes requests, meet commitments, follow up, and be on time
  • Partner with Content Strategy Manager and to build and implement the CAD strategy by providing structured data-driven analyses
  • Collaborate with partners in Product Information, Publishing, Merchandising Strategy, Technical Product Support and Product Management to optimize CAD creation process

You Have:

Critical skills

  • Degree in CAD Drafting Technology, Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering
  • CAD Design Experience- Minimum three years working experience utilizing SolidWorks, Pro Engineer or Creo mechanical design and drawing software to modeling industrial products
  • Detail Oriented & Accurate - Able to build detailed-oriented mechanical 3D models & 2D drawings with minimal direction at a high rate of accuracy
  • Change Management - foster collaboration cross-functionally; identify and manage impacts to key stakeholders; influence without authority; create alignment to achieve objectives
  • Communication - excellent verbal and written communication; active listening; effectively distill complex information into a clear, appropriate message
  • Relationship Building - identify key internal and external stakeholders at all levels and develop strong partnering relationships; develop and maintain open communication and coordination; leverage relationships in pursuit of objectives

Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated Project Management skills -ability to plan and execute on tight deadlines with multiple priorities
  • Results and Deadline-oriented
  • Experience in 3D Scanning/Geomagic Design X a plus
