The Sr Telecommunications Engineer will report to the Director of IT Infrastructure and will provide installation, administration and support services for the corporation's Avaya VoIP systems, integrated voice and data network and related technologies including MPLS and SIP. Implement, tune, configure and upgrade telecommunication systems and network ensuring optimal performance. Monitor network performance, security, capacity and provide proactive recommendations to ensure proactive provisioning.

The Sr Telecommunications Engineer will play an integral role in the success of the group.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing telecommunications systems and changes throughout the organization in conjunction with the Director of Infrastructure
  • Performing adds/moves/changes and performs preventative maintenance on telephone systems (Avaya voice mail, Avaya ACD system and Avaya Voice Portal systems)
  • Project Managing and owning the success or failure of the implementation of telecommunications networks and services, such as MPLS, PRI, ISDN, VOIP, etc.
  • Reviewing and carrying out telecommunications system work requests
  • Overseeing the troubleshooting and acting as owner of telecommunications problems and notifying outside vendors if required
  • Supervising the work of vendor technicians to assure compliance with specifications and agreed-upon levels of service. Identifying variances or service inadequacies to appropriate vendor representatives and working with vendors to resolve problems
  • Reading technical journals and/or manuals, attends vendor seminars and appropriate professional development workshops to learn about the maintenance and use of emerging computer hardware, software, telephony, and network systems
  • Procuring equipment and maintaining inventory levels at standards
  • Maintaining telephone records and procedures and is the responsible owner for such information/documentation
  • Planning for and designing systems for future growth

The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems or computer science or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications support
  • Knowledge of a range of VoIP Systems including Avaya
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to install, configure, and maintain VoIP Systems and related hardware and software
  • Knowledge of VoIP Systems, applications, procedures, and techniques
  • Knowledge of SIP trunking and routing
  • Ability to identify and resolve Telephony System malfunctions and operational problems
  • Ability to troubleshoot circuits, local loops, and drops with vendors
  • Ability to provide technical training to end users
  • Ability to learn and support new systems and applications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

  • 6-7 years of experience in telecommunications support
  • Ability to manage multiple job tasks at one time

  • Ability to manage stress appropriately
  • Ability to build a positive work environment across many sites and influence leaders outside of direct responsibility

Pay range is $98,500 - $133,000/year depending upon experience. We use national and industry-specific survey data to assist in determining compensation. Additionally, we consider factors such as external market rate, budget for the role, and the compensation rates of current employees performing the same function. Some roles will have variable pay.
