The (Surprising!) Day of the Week You Should Apply for a Job

A study by Bright.com, a job search site, finds that applicants were most likely to advance in the hiring process—as in, to be called in for an interview—if they sent in their resume on a Monday, as opposed to any other day.

The site crunched the numbers on more than half a million job submissions and found that almost one out of three people who applied on a Monday were actually successful in moving forward.

On the other hand, Saturdays were found to be the worst day of the week to apply—with only about 14% of applicants moving in the hiring process.

What’s the deal? While the study doesn’t offer an exact explanation, Jacob Bollinger, a senior analyst at Bright.com, suggests to ABC News that Monday applications are more likely to be perused while the week is still fresh. But as the days go on, resumes can pile up and simply collect dust on a recruiter’s desk.

Of course, your job search will come down to more than just clever submission times. To ensure you’re putting your best foot forward when you do submit your application—no matter the day of the week—nix these flaws from your resume, and make sure you’ve refined those interview techniques for when you do get called in.
