Tell us about yourself!
I moved from Seattle to San Francisco this past month after graduating from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in American History. I was actually born in Redwood City and moved to Washington when I was five years old. For many years, I have dreamed of moving back to the Bay Area and recently decided to take the leap to experience life in San Francisco. I now live in the Mission District and love exploring all of the amazing food, art, music, and culture the neighborhood has to offer.
What were you looking for in a job?
Part of my decision to move down to the Bay Area was to become a part of an young and exciting company. This area is full of new and innovative companies, and I wanted to get in on the action and get into a company that would provide me with the opportunity to grow and learn. I had spent my previous working years in a typical office setting and felt it was time to experience something different. At age 23, I feel this is the time to explore and try new things that may seem scary or intimidating. So as I started my job hunt, I looked for a company and position that would address all of those things.
What were you doing before this job?
Before this job, I was working as an Office Manager for a title and property research company. I was responsible for doing extensive property and tax reports based on public county records. It was a difficult job, but it prepared me well for a busy and time-sensitive job.
Why are you excited about this job with iCracked?
I am excited to be a part of something that is growing, and growing fast! iCracked is full of upward mobility and opportunity, which is what attracted me to the company in the first place. I love that everyone on the team has helped in the creation of the company in one way or another, and I hope to add to that creation with my work here.
Also, when I saw the profile for iCracked, I was immediately drawn to the atmosphere of the office and the people. It was very clear that the iCracked team was a hardworking bunch that valued the concept of enjoying your workplace and embracing each day with a positive attitude. The office is full of people from all over at all different stages of life, each one bringing something unique to the company. After viewing the company profiles on The Muse, I knew iCracked was a company I wanted to be a part of.
Is there anything from The Daily Muse that helped you out in your job hunt?
The Daily Muse was incredibly helpful in keeping me focused and up-to-date with my job hunt. Everyone knows that finding a job can be a very difficult and frustrating process, but The Daily Muse helped make the whole process more enjoyable by offering insightful articles and helpful tips. The daily emails were a great reminder to keep my resume and cover letters up to date, and allowed me to regularly check company profiles for open positions. Without it, I may have not otherwise come across the job listing with iCracked.
In particular, The Daily Muse had a number of very helpful articles on interviewing and how to prepare. Before each interview I had with iCracked, I would log on and read the most recent article on interviewing tips or how to stand out among applicants. This was the perfect way for me to get into the interviewing mindset and provided me with great advice. I was able to go into the interview feeling confident and well prepared!
What advice would you have for someone who wanted a job like yours?
Keep an open mind! Having majored in History in college, I certainly did not expect to find myself working at a tech startup. However, I realized that what you study in school does not necessarily have to determine your work life. I think it’s important to explore the many opportunities life gives you—when it comes to your career, you should never limit yourself to a certain job or position. If I had not kept an open mind, I would have never become part of the amazing team here at iCracked!
