I accidentally broke up with someone through Facebook. Okay we were on the rocks anyway, and I was planning on telling him that day...but I was on Facebook, idly "tidying up" and I decided to "hide" my relationship status. I misjudged - distracted by a million other websites on a million other tabs - and very quickly got the phonecall...."I've just seen Facebook! It says you're single! You could have had the decency to tell me first..."
Dating used to be relatively simple. You went on a few dates, became a couple, eventually broke up, and that was that. Now, thanks to the ubiquitous third wheel, Facebook, there are a few more steps: checking out your date’s profile for red flags, having the awkward “but are we Facebook official?” conversation, and keeping an eye on (er, stalking) your ex’s posts for signs of a new girlfriend, to name a few.
But taking our relationships online might be complicating our lives even beyond what meets the eye. Check out this infographic to see how status updates and wall posts might be affecting your offline relationships, and even your mental health.
