We’ve all had them—those moments when we realize that where we are and where we want to be don’t quite go hand in hand. Career crises like these are uncomfortable, unhelpful, and for many of us, occur more often than we would like.
In this brilliant video, British writer and philosopher Alain de Botton discusses why he thinks it’s so difficult for us to stay calm when it comes to our careers. Ultimately, he asks us to reconsider our ideas about success and failure. “It’s bad enough not getting what you want,” he explains, “but it’s even worse having an idea of what you want, and then finding out at the end of the journey that it isn’t, in fact, what you wanted at all.”
Watch for some insight, some laughs, and some relief to any career anxiety in your life.
