Mad Men, the wildly popular show about the heady days of advertising (and sexism), is back, with Season 5 premiering tomorrow. But even if you’ve been following since Season 1—you haven’t seen Mad Men like this.
Created by Elisa Kreisinger, the self-styled Pop Culture Pirate, this Mad Men mash-up uses spoken lines from recent episodes to paint a profoundly interesting—and subversive—picture of what’s hiding behind the pencilled lips of Mad Men‘s women—all set to set to the Supremes’ “Keep Me Hangin’ On.”
For more political remixing from Kreisinger (including a remixed Sex and the City), check out a recent Atlantic article on Kreisinger’s work:
Kreisinger… “writes with TV, about TV,” slicing up familiar shows to create alternative narratives that expose and transform mainstream cultural messages. Recontextualizing heavily gendered moments in shows like Sex and the City and Mad Men, her viral videos are both playful and profoundly subversive.”
