Last week, Bic launched its “Cristal For Her” pens, launching a firestorm of Internet buzz (and, of course, some amazing Amazon reviews). Why would we need such pens, you might ask? “Elegant design—just for her!” “Thin barrel to fit a women’s hand!” says the company.

Yeah.

Unfortunately, though, Bic isn’t the first brand to take regular, everyday products, turn them pink, and market them to women. Here’s a look back at some of the most ridiculous “just for her” inventions out there.

 

1. Chick Beer

Because, obviously, no self-respecting, beer-drinking chick would be caught dead drinking Rolling Rock.

2. Pink Tools

Pink Tools, the original pink tool company, has strangely suspended its operations, but Tomboy Tools came to the rescue with pink tool, drills, and even pink tool parties!

4. Turntables

Because, as the site says, “technology should be designed in a way that is attractive to women.” And that means pink, obviously.

5. Ear Plugs

With Sleep Pretty in Pink ear plugs, ”women know they can fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.” Because, you know, they look cute.

The sad part, is that I bet some of those things really sold well! I think the tomboy tools did actually
