Introducing: Equal Pay Day Ryan Gosling

by , April 17, 2012 — 6 Comments

The wage gap women face today is no laughing matter. It’s been nearly 50 years since the passage of the Equal Pay Act, and women still earn significantly less than their male counterparts for doing the same work. That difference will add up to quite a bit over their careers—and it has to stop.

We often talk about how to ask for a promotion, negotiate your salary, and work towards systemic change. But today, we figured you might need a little extra plain, old-fashioned encouragement. So, to help kick off Equal Pay Day, we’ve recruited the impossibly talented and persuasive Ryan Gosling to remind you why you deserve to be paid what you’re worth, and you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for it.

I have to agree with Jake. I think that humor can be a great way to the word out and I think it did its job in this piece. Really enjoyed reading this (and not just because Ryan is really cute).

Very informative (and fun). Humor is a great way to get the word out!! This encouaged me to do a search on Equal Pay Day (as you sparked my intersest). I had no idea the wage gap was this extreme or that "Equal Pay Day" even existed...going on 16+ years. Nicely done!

@Miranada - wadr, sorry, but i disgaree. sometimes it takes unconvential means to make a point/spread the word even on the most sensitvie of topics or issues. Call me simple, but this got my attention, and more importantly, made me want to educate myself more on the topic.

This is amazing! I had no idea Equal Pay Day was even a thing, until today. It's so hard to believe that even today, women are paid so much less than men. Thanks for spreading the word TDM (and Ryan, haha).

We are not talking about bringing any one down -- we are talking about bringing everyone UP to the same level.

Go to our website and tell us how you are getting even --watch our 112 second video and share it.

Hey, girl, this is extremely patronizing. Women will never be paid equal when even our allies are calling us 'girl' and thinking we need some hot Hollywood dude to motivate us. I'm all for using humor to make a point, but this is lame. Sorry.
